Glosser’s in the News!

Glosser’s is taking the media by storm!  I’ll be talking about Christmas at Glosser’s on live TV on Central PA Live on WTAJ-TV, Channel 10, in Altoona, this Wednesday, December 11, at 4:00PM!  Tune in and learn more about the book, how it came to be, what it’s all about, and what’s next in the Johnstown Cycle of stories!  Also, be sure to check out the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat this Saturday, December 14, for a story about the book.  And there’s more media fun to come, so stay tuned!

I also have some great news on the e-book front.  Christmas at Glosser’s is finally available on iTunes for your iPad, iPhone, and other Apple devices.  You can find it right here or search for the book by name on iTunes or iBooks.

And the Special Edition e-book is still available right here, including special bonus material you won’t find in any other e-book version.  The best news of all is that the Special Edition paperback is on its way, too…coming tomorrow, after a slight production hiccup.  (Darn those clumsy elves!)  I’ll be sure to let you know.

As reported earlier, the original paperback is now on sale on the Books-A-Million website!  Just click right here to find the product page and order up a copy!  If you’d like an in-person preview, and you’re in the Johnstown area, drop by the Books-A-Million store in the Galleria and ask about a preview copy.

If you don’t have access to a computer, Books-A-Million in the Johnstown Galleria is your ticket to Glosser’s paradise.  Just stop in the store and ask to order a copy at the checkout counter, and the friendly staff will set you right up!

Don’t forget, you can also snag a copy of the paperback right here at CreateSpace and right here at Amazon.  Plus, you can find the Kindle e-book herethe Nook edition right here…and the Kobo version here…or search for it by name on your favorite e-reading device or app.

Not to mention, you can now check out an e-book copy via Overdrive at any branch of the Cambria County Library System, including (appropriately enough!) the David A. Glosser Memorial Library in downtown Johnstown!

As you can see, there’s a lot happening with Christmas at Glosser’s…and more to come!  This truly is the season of Glosser’s, and it’s about time!  I can smell the roasting peanuts already, as we bring back the memories etched upon our holiday dreams.  Long live Glosser’s!

Super-Heroes for Your Ears?

We can all use a good superhero now and then, right?  Maybe especially at this hectic time of year.  That’s why I’m pleased to announce a new audiobook that’s stuffed to the gills with ‘em–Six Superhero Stories.  Here’s the cover by the one and only blazing Ben Baldwin his own bad self:

6 Scifi Stories Vol 3 NEW PROTOTYPEThis book includes some of my favorite stories of any genre (don’t miss Forced Partnership).  It also features some of the best narration I’ve ever had the pleasure to listen to, by the great Craig Jessen.  It’s a project that honors the superhero tradition while taking it all several steps further into a more literary (but still action-packed) zone.

Here’s a great blog by Craig Jessen, talking about the stories he narrated for this audiobook.  You can order the audiobook right here on Amazon, here on Audible, and here on iTunes.  Not to mention, the original print edition is on sale here at CreateSpace, here at Amazon, and here at Barnes and Noble.

Here’s a rundown of what you can expect once you plop yourself in an easy chair, pull on your headphones, and crank up the volume on Six Superhero Stories:

“Forced Retirement”: What if Alzheimer’s struck the World’s Mightiest Hero? His daughter, heroic Hericane, finds out the hard way. Gripped by dementia, godlike Epitome tears apart a city, and no one can stop him. Will his madness destroy the entire world?  Not if Hericane recruits the one big gun who stands a chance in Hell of stopping her father in his tracks.  But the battle of the century between the super-charged titans might just kick-start the Apocalypse instead of stopping it.

“Heroes of Global Warming”: The world’s hottest hero has gone rogue! In an age of global warming, super-heated hero Skillet looks like a lukewarm loser. But when his teammates, the Castigators, turn their backs on him, he turns the Castigators into prey. Let the hunt begin! Skillet becomes public enemy number one as he rounds up his former allies. But the secret plan behind his hunt might just save the world.

“Forced Betrayal”:  Who murdered the girlfriend of the World’s Mightiest Heroine? Super-powered Hericane will stop at nothing to find out who killed the woman she loved. But when she teams with Bonnie Taggart, internal affairs investigator for the Superhuman Protectorate, the search leads in unexpected directions. Fighting their way through the darkest corners of Isosceles City, Hericane and Bonnie tear the truth from criminal chimpanzees, crooked promoters, and hateful cops, only to fall prey to a terrible trap.

“The Wife Who Never Was”: What happens when a truly super hero loses the love of his life in the continuity overhaul of his fictional universe? Mighty Pinnacle’s super memory won’t let him forget his lost marriage to Doris Dane, and his aching heart drives him to search everywhere for a way to bring her back. But all his power might not be enough when he runs up against a force from beyond his world, an enemy with the secret to his suffering.

“Forced Partnership”: Hero-on-sidekick violence explodes in this hard-hitting super-hero tale. Why does Partycrasher, dark avenger of the night, give his sidekick the beating of a lifetime?  Could it be the cowled crusader has fallen under the influence of sexy reformed bad girl Linda Loveblind, aka Partygirl? Or has the sidekick truly committed a heinous crime for which there can be no forgiveness? Maybe the answer is none of the above.

“A Matter of Size”: Who is killing the world’s smallest super-heroes? Down-on-his-luck masked avenger Man-Child takes the case, but can he save the remaining Small Wonders from a killer with a twisted crush fetish? Man-Child takes on villainous Mammon and Stigmata without missing a beat, but his own dark secret might be enough to bring him down for good.

Scifi Action for Your Ears: Battlenaut Audiobook Lives!

‘Tis the season for hardcore scifi action in an audio galaxy far, far away, wouldn’t you say?  That’s why I’ve brought Battlenaut Crucible to life as an audiobook, just in time to light up your reindeer-antler headphones and jingle bell ear buds!  Here’s the cover by blazin’ Ben Baldwin his own bad self:

Battlenaut CrucibleThe narrator/producer, Randy Hames, is one of the greats…a real artist of audiobook creation.  Trust me, Randy’s work makes everything he reads sound a million times better than it ever sounded in my head when I was writing it.  He brings a real hard-hitting power and gritty humanity to Battlenaut Crucible and makes it a truly memorable listening experience.

You can order a copy right here from Amazon, right here from Audible, and here from Apple iTunes.  If you love science fiction with a military flavor, cool and complex characters, and thought-provoking ideas, this is the audiobook for you.

Here’s a bit about the story to whet your appetite:  The Red Battlenauts show no mercy. Roaring out of the darkness of deep space, these ultra-high tech war machines pound the hell out of both sides in a bloody interstellar civil war. No one can even see the Reds–no one except Marine Corporal Solomon Scott. Recruited by the hardcore SEAL-like Diamondbacks, Scott becomes a secret weapon in the ultimate struggle for survival. In battle after battle on perilous alien worlds, Scott and the Diamondbacks fight back against the ruthless Reds, desperately holding the line in furious clashes of muscle and metal. But when a face from the past exposes the secrets behind the carnage, a quest for answers becomes a race against time. Because the masters of the Red Battlenauts have more on their minds than a thirst for conquest…and only Solomon Scott can hope to stand against them.

Return to the Magic of Glosser’s

If you lived in Johnstown, Pennsylvania any time before 1989, you probably know about the Glosser Bros. Department Store.  It was a real downtown landmark, an old style department store on the corner of Franklin and Locust Streets.  Here’s an illustration that ought to bring back some memories of the place:

Christmas at Glosser's background

If you’re like me, you often think about Glosser’s at this time of year, as it was the focus of holiday shopping for so very many years.  You probably remember the big light-up Christmas tree decoration on the front corner of the building, the holiday decorations in the windows…and the smell of roasting nuts that wafted throughout the ground floor from the candy counter.  It was a magical place for so many Johnstowners; it closed in ’89 but will never be forgotten.

Well, guess what?  The magic is back!  Now you can be a part of it again in the pages of my new book, Christmas at Glosser’s.  Here’s the beautiful cover by the one and only blazin’ Ben Baldwin his own bad self:

Christmas at Glosser's Cover

Just to make this book even more special, it’s my 100th e-book from Pie Press Publishing!  And to make it even cooler, the guy on the cover is none other than my actual grandfather, Ben Heinrich!  Artist extraordinaire Ben Baldwin really did a sensational job capturing his likeness.  (Thanks, Ben!)

So far, e-book and paperback editions of Christmas at Glosser’s are available.  You can find the e-book here for the Kindle and Kindle apps, here for the Nook and Nook apps, here for the Kobo device and app, and here on Smashwords for other devices and formats. You can also search for it by name on your favorite device and will soon be able to find it in your local library using the Overdrive and 3M Cloud Library systems.

The paperback edition is available right here on the CreateSpace e-store and right here on Amazon.

Now here’s a bit about the story, to whet your appetite:  Step back in time to Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 1975. Shoppers fill the downtown streets, bustling between the Glosser Bros. and Penn Traffic department stores…and one little boy runs through the crowd on a mission. Eleven-year-old Jack wants one thing for Christmas: to find out where his grandfather, Bub, runs off to every Christmas Eve. The trail leads him on a journey through Glosser Bros. at its most magical, but the magic takes an unexpected turn when he discovers Bub’s secret. Before the night is over, Jack must take a stand in the name of Johnstown, a stand that could cost him everything…or bring him the greatest gift he can imagine.
